Choosing the Density:

Selecting the Correct Orthotic Size:

ICB Orthotic Sizing Chart

Prescribe the right orthotic for your patient:

·            Determine the right density.  ICB Orthotics are available in 4 densities (refer above) to provide the right biomechanical control.

·            Mid density is good for general use, however Dual gives the best control and provides the patient with comfort at the same time.

How to fit your ICB prescription orthotic:

·            Replace badly worn shoes.  Remove arch cushions and thick linings from the shoe.

·            Place the orthotic on the base of the foot so it closely fits the contours of the foot.  Ensure that the distal (leading) edge of the orthotic finishes 5‑10mm from the 1st MPJ.

·            Once the device is heated, fit it hard against the inside of the shoe heel counter.  Suggest that the patient wears the product for 1‑2 hours at a time and allow the product to settle in for a period of 2 weeks.  If irritation occurs take the product out of the shoe and allow the inflammation to subside - usually a couple of hours, then re-continue the pattern.

·            If heel slippage occurs, choose shoes with a high heel cup (counter), take the ‘inner sole’ out of runners or prescribe the Dress or High Heel model; narrow shoes will require a narrower orthotic.

·            Additional rearfoot wedging may be required to alleviate the pronation and increase the supinatory effect (see Modifying with Additions).

·            If symptoms reappear, check the density for right ‘control’.

ICB Orthotics - Heat Moulding:

NOTE: DO NOT apply heat to Taibrelle® cover on the dorsal surface.

·                Select correct model, size & density.  Remove innersoles etc.  Select the required product allow for the weight of the patient.

·                Attach any Forefoot or Rearfoot Additions prior to heat moulding

·                Holding the ICB Orthotic by the distal edge, heat the orthotic using an ICB Heat Gun.  Hold the heat gun 15cm from the plantar surface of the orthotic - heating for 20-30 seconds in a ‘10-seconds-on, 3-seconds-off’ sequence until the surface has softened.

·                Heat the plantar surface of the orthotic until it gains elasticity.  ICB Orthotics DO NOT SPLIT, but overheating is not recommended.

·                Place the heated orthotic into the patient’s shoe - the patient must wear both orthotics and shoes during the moulding process.

·                As the patient stands, place the foot into the Subtalar Neutral Position and push the orthotic up into the arch for 20-30 seconds.

·                After moulding, remove the orthotic from the shoe and allow to cool for 1-2 minutes.

·                Repeat the process for the other foot.

·                Attach Heel Lifts and Metatarsal Domes after heat moulding.

How to find Subtalar Neutral Positioning:

·            Talo-Navicular Technique

à                  Place thumb and forefinger either side of the Talo-Navicular joint.

à          Palpate until joint feels congruent or even.

à            Subtalar Neutral will be achieved when the foot is neither pronating or supinating.

·            Poster Lower 1/3 Calcaneal Method

à                  Bisect the lower area of the calcaneus.

à             Bisect the lower posterior 1/3 tibia

à             Hold the talo-navicular joint and palpate.  Whilst viewing the posterior view of the calcaneus.

à             Subtalar neutral is found when both are in line with each other.
