Osgood Schlatters Disease is often misdiagnosed as ‘growing pains’.  It is caused by repetitive stress or tension on the growth plate of the upper tibia, which can be complicated by growth spurts and biomechanical anomalies, such as pronation and tibial rotation.  As the foot pronates, internal tibial rotation occurs.  The body’s natural compensation for this is to tighten the ITB (Ilio Tibial Band) in the opposite direction (to the rotation) causing the patella to displace laterally and superiorly, resulting in a tractional pull on the patella tendon attachment at the tibial tuberosity.

ICB Orthotics treat Osgood Schlatters Disease by correcting pronation, which reduces the effects of tibial rotation on the knee joint.
