Metatarsalgia is a general term used to denote a painful condition where pain (often described as a ‘burning’ pain) is experienced in the plantar forefoot pad under the metatarsal heads – an area commonly referred to as the ‘ball’ of the foot.
Metatarsalgia can be attributed to excessive pronation, causing the transverse arch to collapse. Differential diagnosis of Metatarsalgia is Mortons Neuroma, which exhibits more localised pain as the interdigital nerves between the metatarsal heads become impinged.
ICB Orthotics treat Metatarsalgia and Mortons Neuroma by correcting pronation, and the addition of a metatarsal dome to the anterior dorsal surface of the orthotic will aid in restoring the foot’s natural transverse arch – thus relieving pressure and pain.
